CECILIE EKEN
Author
Cecilie Eken is an award-winning Danish author of literature for children and young people. First published in 1993, she has since written well over thirty titles. Her work ranges from poetic picture books, easy readers, and series for tweens to novels for the age group 13+ – the majority has a love of the fantastic genre in common even though she has also written realism. Eken’s work is inspired by history, myths, folk tales and songs from all over the world as well as her own travels and the works of important predecessors such as H.C. Andersen or Ursula K. le Guin. Her stories often focus on the protagonist’s personal growth and relationship to the surrounding world, but also on the importance of language and storytelling in this process. Currently she is involved in an artistic research project at the National Film School of Denmark centered on trans medial world building.
